Venice Tavern History

Orazio Egizio, my Grandfather, emigrated to America from Italy after fighting, being captured, and escaping as a POW during WW I. He opened "The Venice Tavern" on old Rt. 66 in Joliet, IL. Dine & Dance, Nickel Beer Curb Service, were some of the signs greeting motorist and locals.

On weekends the locals would come to have lunch, drink, and play bocce ball while the children would play on the hill next to the tavern. My Mother and Father ran it for a period before my Father went into the automobile business. In 1987 we purchased a tavern and named it after Orazio, my Grandfather. Orazio Pub, located in Naperville, IL., is one of the finest traditional neighborhood pubs and grills in the Western Suburbs.

I choose to name the "Venice Tavern" after their original tavern in memory of my Father Angelo J. Egizio, a man who loved family, friends, conversation, and great food, especially what he liked to call "Italian & American Peasant Gourmet". Thank you for visiting our Website.

Sincerely, Angelo Owen Egizio
